The tape devices should therefore be called /dev/[n]st* and /dev/[n]mt*, and there should be no corresponding /dev/r* devices. C.f. /dev/sda (which exists) vs. /dev/rsda (which doesn't, but would on other Unices - usually under a name like /dev/rsd0c). Ian.
