PS: I grabbed the default config from
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Touchpad_Synaptics#Frequently_used_options
and it immediately solved the problem.
So the actual issue is probably just the failure of device detection
(because I didn't need to hack any config for this laptop in the past)
or in the settings management.
