This IGP is known to be problematic with nouveau. Especially, I would
not recommend to use gnome-shell with it, better use fallback mode or
some other 2D-only desktop environment like XFCE.

You could try to allocate more memory than 64 MiB to the graphics chip
in your BIOS.
