This program has been written to implement virtual networking
=A0support for the Hercules S/390 simulator, but it is intentionally
=A0 generic in its functionality, so any other virtual machine
=A0 =A0simulator/emulator program could potentially use it.
The function is quite simple:
=A0 - The virtual machine simulator program starts VMnet and talks
=A0 =A0 the SLIP protocol with it over stdin/out.
=A0 - VMnet sets up a SLIP connection on the host system,
=A0 =A0 talking over a pseudo-tty to the VMnet program.
=A0 - Once things have been set up, VMnet simply copie the data streams=20
betweenstdin/out and the SLIP psuedo-tty in both directions.
=A0 =A0 Thus, the virtual machine has a direct SLIP connection with the hos=

without needing to worry about root privileges, pseudo-ttys, access rights,=

etc.
