If one starts Evolution from the KDE kicker (as opposed to from the CLI)
it always starts off-line. I've reviewed as many docs on Evolution as I
can find, but cannot see anything that would enable me to configure it

so that it starts on-line. Has anyone ever been able to set this up in
such a way to work on-line when it starts up?

Is there a reason why I shouldn't?

Had the same sort of thing a while ago with epiphany and liferea. In my case, after a process of elimination, network-manager was the problem.

Cheers Rob. The machine in question isn't running any network-manager. I disabled it sometime back, so unless I have overlooked it, I really don't think that that would be the problem.
