How many users are affected? If you haven't tried other users I would
create one. Or if you have and found they work... then remove/changename
of $HOME/.xscreensaver

Removing it would be easiest, but then you get to have playing again.

Without making any changes (other than rss-glxinstall.pl, or what ever
it is) try them one at a time.

I am betting the engine fails with a set of bad data from .xscreensaver,
I know lattice ran really screwy for me until I reset it to defaults.
