Pico is the stand alone editor that provides standard file editing features found in any reasonable text editor. The only non-debian apt sources I have are those for the au8830 drivers, OpenOffice, Blackdown Java, and Branden's XFree86 packages. I'm currently using ftp.de.debian.org for my Debian sources.
