Check out /etc/X11/window-managers. Edit it so that /usr/X11R6/bin/kde is the
first one listed.
If you also run /usr/sbin/switchdm that'll run kdm instead of xdm to start X. The
only real advantage (that I've seen) there is that kdm puts a prettier login box on
the screen for you.
