Bug#65837: installing local .mf files

They're on CTAN, for example:

  ftp://ftp.dante.de/tex-archive/macros/lamstex/mf/lams1.mf

The tfm files are in .../lamstex/tfm.

The lams fonts are fancy arrow heads and tails needed by the pb-diagram
package, which ought to be included in the distribution as well. I
know a bunch of mathematicians who use it. It's in:

ftp://ftp.dante.de/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/supported/pb-diagram/

One catch: there are already files named lams1.mf through lams5.mf in

  /var/spool/texmf/source/lh/lh-t2a/

Any idea where these came from and why they are in /var/spool?
They don't seem related to the arrow fonts, but mf tries to
process them when I view a dvi file containing pb-diagram stuff.

Even more, mf gives an error message when it tries to process them,
something about ecms not being found.
