I had a power supply go bad a few months back, the 5 volt line was
running at about 4.3 volts (IIRC). It would run OK for extended
periods, but doing anything involving a lot of disk activity could
bring on a reboot. Considering that there are a lot of things in the
daily crontab which involve heavy disk activity (updatedb comes to
mind), you shouldn't rule out a hardware problem.
