Installing Remmina

Hey,

I'd like to connect to Windows Remote Desktop from a Linux computer. I have Debian 10 (Andronix) running inside Termux, a terminal emulator for Android.

I was curious, is Remmina the standard tool for rdp from Linux, or should I consider other equally reliable tools?

The Remmina documentation says that it is packaged for Debian 10 as version 1.3.3, which is in the color light red instead of green. What does this mean? That in the standard Debian package manager, apt, you will get the older version 1.3.3 - is that a bad thing? Will the tool not work for some reason, if it's too old? But in that case, why isn't it packaged for a newer version? Is it too time-consuming for the packagers, or would it not work on an older version of Debian?

I tried to install it with Flatpak following the home page instructions. I got an error on the line "flatpak install org.freedesktop.Platform.openh264", "No remote refs found similar". Would you have any idea why this is? The documentation says its "In order to have H.264 codecs". What is that? Is there a way I could fix that?

I went on with the flatpak installation and the other lines seemed to work, until I got to the line "flatpak run --user org.remmina.Remmina", which returned "bwrap: Can't read /proc/sys/kernel/overflwouid: Permission denied; ldconfig failed, exit status 256".

I have the option for a newer version of Ubuntu in Andronix so I might try to go with that instead. Or, I might try to compile it from source, for Debian.

I'd really love if you could help me understand a bit more about what's going on here, since I'm pretty new to Linux and packages and such topics.

Thanks very much,

Julius
