Subject: Interface for printer setup tools to look up driver packages on OpenPrinting
is implemented

Hi,
As already announced earlier [1] we start to provide
distribution-independent driver packages on OpenPrinting. As we want to
make it even possible for printer setup tools to automatically find,
download, and install drivers from OpenPrinting, an interface for the
tools to access the database is needed.
I have now implemented such an interface. See these instructions [2]
about how it is used. The interface works by calling special URLs
describing your requests. It provides printer and driver data, including
paths to download the packages and package version information. Examples
for typical use cases are provided on the instructions page.
This way you can enhance the printer setup tool you are working on to
make even printers working which are not supported by the drivers coming
with the distro, especially printers which are newer than the distro.
The interface provides enough info to help the user on installing
third-party drivers on his distro: License, support contacts and
responsibility levels, whether the driver comes from the printer's
manufacturer, ...). Also evaluation of the driver's support levels for
common printing tasks will be provided.

WDYT? Is this implementation complete and useful? Or should I add
certain features to it?
