The pristine-tar branch fallback detection was broken due to missing white-space trimming. Previously I had always either used repos that had a working gbp.conf, had fixed the existing gbp.conf by hand, or had downloaded the Archive's copy of the orig.tar, and aways doing the good, right, and safe thing had prevented me from hitting this bug.
