Bug#962389: (no subject)

Package: audacity
Version: 2.3.3-2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

since a week or so, the cursor of the selection tool does not move anymore when playing any tracks. This happens in old projects that worked before as well as in new ones. For many applications, it renders Audacity completely useless, as it often is required to see where the cursor is while playing.

I think this problem is Debian-specific as no new version of Audacity got into the bullseye repositories in the time of this change.

Detailed description:

   * What led up to the situation?

Nothing visible except possibly updating dependencies of audacity.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)?

   1) Open Audacity.
   2) Import audio track or open existing project.
   3) Play audio track(s).

   * What was the outcome of this action?

Audio playing is working; however, the cursor position does not change except
when hovering the mouse over one of the "magnetic" track splitting lines; when
doing this, the cursor position is "updated" and the cursor is standing still
at this new position. By frantically moving the mouse back and forth over the
splitting lines, a stuttering movement can be achieved.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

A cursor moving smooth without any physical exercise needed for this.

Regards,

Chris Peters
