Package: lintian
Severity: wishlist
Version: 2.4.1

Hi,

The removal of .la file from package is a squeeze release goal (see [1])

Then it could be interesting to add lintian checks for that.

Actually two checks could be added, one for checking if a package
contains a .la file and an other for checking if this .la file has a
non-empty "dependency_libs" field.

Cheers,

Laurent Bigonville

PS: The packages that are currently shipping .la files can be
found there: http://ftp-master.debian.org/~aba/la/current.txt

To my knowledge we still do not have a way of determining if .la files
are redundant (at least not in a way that is suitable for Lintian). So
I am taking the liberty of closing this bug now.
