I think it's better to burn a debian-live-7.6.0-amd64-standard.iso image
on CD and make a USB-stick with the latest firmware. You can start
debian from the live-CD to see if the ethernetcard is working properly.
If the ethernet card isn't working properly you can start the
installation of the standard edition as well because the installer might
ask for the firmware on your USB-stick during the insallation process.
