pcmcia / cd-drive / winmodem / firewire

hi,

i just compiled kernel 2.4.5 on my vaio pcg-sr1k and there are a few
things i still haven't figured out:

usb worked out of the box (the memory-stick slot, and the usb mouse i'm
using), after grabbing the latest drivers from alsa-project.org and
compiling i had sound as well.

next i downloaded and compiled pcmcia-cs and even though it basically
works i am still experiencing problems with my pcmcia cd-drive...

-cardmgr detects the drive successfully and marks it as /dev/hde (the
debian installation originally marked it as /dev/hdc) ... however it is
not
linked to /dev/cdrom and not mounted automatically. i tried mounting
/dev/hde which works for cd-roms ... playback of audio cds doesn't work at
all (i tried various player apps with /dev/hde -- didn't work) how do i
generally get audio cds to play back???

apart from that, if i insert the cd-card manually (cardctl insert) cardctl
seems to hang (or wait for something) and i need to use ctrl-c to stop it
(i can access the cd-drive after that though)

other than that i cannot use the winmodem and the firewire port so far...

cat /proc/pci detects the following:

Bus 0, device 10, function 0:
Communication controller: PCI device 14f1:2443 (CONEXANT) (rev 1).

Bus 0, device 7, function 3:
FireWire (IEEE 1394): Sony Corporation CXD3222 i.Link Controller (rev
2).

i already know that there is a driver for conexant winmodems for kernel
2.2.x does anybody know if there is a version for 2.4.x kernels? i also
wanted to ask if anybody has experience with this modem and the i.link
controller?

thanks!

vester
