RE: X on NeoMagic

I have the same Neomagic Video Card on my Laptop. We could probably help
each other out. I got far in detecting my PCMCIA network card though. It
detected it. Now I just got a noticed saying I have to configure it. I am
using DHCP.
Since we are having similar problems, we could probably help each other
out. Then write a Howto or FAQ when we are done.

Subject: X on NeoMagic

I just got a Gateway 2500 se, which comes with a NeoMagic MagicGraph
128XD.

I saw that X supports this but the version that comes with 2.1 doesn't.

I need to things. First how to just upgrade X. (I don't want to go over to
potato if I can avoid it), or how to replace it with a new version I
compile my self.

Second How to figure how much Video Ram it has (It still has Win 98 on it,
so I can play games on the road), which I assume I need, as every other
time I set up X it needed it.

Super Probe says its a:
Chipset: Yamaha 6388 VDPC (Port Porbed)
RAMDAC: Generic 8-bit pseudo-color DAC
(with 6-bit wide lookup tables (or in 6 bit mode))

After That I'll work on getting pcmcia, and ethernet to work

G: All right sir. See the little box with the row of lights on the front?
    We'll call that the wiggly-diggly.
Cu: Uh-huh.
G: When the lights on the wiggly-diggly flash rapidly, click on the
thingamajig, and your doodlybum should open. Voila! You're connected.
Cu: Okay ... yeah, I think I got it. Thanks!
Ch: Say Greg?
G: Yeah Chief?
Ch: Don't you think that call was a little ... ohh ... precedent setting?
G: If you're trying to terrify me, it's too damn late.
