I agree with Frédéric. I've remastered Knoppix, translating many scripts into
Spanish, but it would be much easier and secure to do it from a .pot (you
can ask for help to the Translation Project at
http://www2.iro.umontreal.ca/~gnutra/po/HTML/ we do translate for GNU and
others into many languages).
Although versions (remasterizations) in different languages still will be
necessary becuase you can't put dictionaries, Open Office locales, etc... in
just one CD.
And maybe , Klaus, you are thinking of people with a high/middle educational
level, who understand English although they would feel more comfortable with
their own language, but it's very important for many peplo who doesn't
understand a word of English to read the messages in their own language
because in other way they don't understand anything. And it uses to happen
that beginners with Linux and perhaps with computers doesn't speak English.
We are talking also about people who hardly can write correctly in their own
language.
I've translated as many messages into Spanish as I've been able, just because
I think I contribute that way to expand Free Software among People (300
million peple speak Spanish) that wouldn't use it if they don't understand
it, and I receive messages from people from many countries (a lot of them
from South America). It's worth the effort.
