Package: linux-image-amd64 Version: 4.3+70~bpo8+1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, in debian jessie i can install linux-image-amd64 even if i386 is the only architecture that is being used by apt/dpkg. however this metapackage is not available to i386 users of jessie-backports unless they add the amd64 architecture with # dpkg --add-architecture amd64 for many i386 users this may be the only amd64 package they wish to install. it would be nice if this amd64 package was in the i386 backports for the sake of convenience. thanks, andrew -- System Information: Debian Release: 8.3 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable'), (320, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: amd64 Kernel: Linux 4.3.0-0.bpo.1-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_US.utf8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages linux-image-amd64 depends on: ii linux-image-4.3.0-0.bpo.1-amd64 4.3.5-1~bpo8+1 linux-image-amd64 recommends no packages. linux-image-amd64 suggests no packages. -- no debconf information

Then it would have an unsatisfiable dependency. How is that convenient? I guess you actually want the real linux-image-<abi>-amd64 package to be provided for i386 too. Well, it's not coming back. Embrace multiarch. Ben. -- Ben Hutchings Nothing is ever a complete failure; it can always serve as a bad example.Attachment: signature.asc
