Package: linux-image-2.6.26-2-openvz-amd64
Version: 2.6.26-15
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***

After the upgrade from linux-image-2.6.26-1-openvz-amd64 to
linux-image-2.6.26-2-openvz-amd64, it's no longer possible to shutdown
some virtual environments by calling "vzctl stop".

The operation times out after a while, no other trace in left in the
logfile (/var/log/vzctl.log).

root@auyantepui:~# vzctl stop 124
Stopping VE ...
Unable to stop VE: operation timed out
root@auyantepui:~#

The same hardware, a Dell PowerEdge 1800 server, booted with the previous
openvz kernel (linux-image-2.6.26-1-openvz-amd64) does not experience
this problem.

Interestingly, on impacted systems, running the sync command takes ages.

root@auyantepui:~# time sync
real 0m15.360s
user 0m0.000s
sys 0m0.084s
root@auyantepui:~#

Unfortunately we did not manage to reproduce this problem on a fresh
Debian lenny installation in a virtual machine running under VirtualBox.

Hi,
your bug has been filed against the "linux-2.6" source package and was filed for
a kernel older than the recently released Debian 7.x.

As already announced in the release notes of Debian 6, the kernel from Debian 7.x
no longer includes support for openvz (due to the openvz changes not being part of
the upstream kernel).

We're closing this bug now, the Debian wiki contains some information on running
Debian 7.x with openvz: http://wiki.debian.org/OpenVz

Cheers,
        Moritz
