Happened to me as well. Just out of curiosity, how do you fix a system in this state? And how you managed to flag "systemd" as the problem?
in my case only intuition and luck.
only systemd, among the updates, could do all that mess;)
So I restarted from the vm backup keeping systemd to the old version.
