Again, if you're using hda4, that translates into Mach hd0s4, *not*
hd0d.

The Hurd doesn't know shadow passwords yet, so you'll have to merge
them back into the passwd file if you want to login to one of those
accounts.

If you have a recent ext2fsutils (>= version 1.10, I believe), then
you can safely run fsck on your Hurd partition.  Older versions will
clobber all your translators, which will disrupt your Hurd boot
process.
