I think it would make more sense to convert the daemon to systemd. You
can use dh_systemd for that matter and writing a systemd service file
is usually very easy and yet highly configurable.
In the long term, all daemons should be converted to systemd, no
matter whether these normally are started through init scripts or
(x)inetd.
