Source: equivs
Section: admin
Priority: optional
Maintainer: Paul Seelig <pseelig@goofy.zdv.uni-mainz.de>
Standards-Version: 2.1.1.0
Package: equivs
Architecture: any
Description: Circumventing Debian package dependencies
This is a dummy package that tells debians package-management about
software on the system equivalent to debian-packages. It is very
convenient if you prefer to install software which usually comes along
with Debian your own way in /usr/local and don't want to be molested by
 dselect's dependency annoyances.
 .
Please note that this is a crude hack and if thoughtlessly used might do
damage to your packaging system. And please note as well that using it is
not the recommended way of dealing with broken dependencies. Better file
 a bug report instead.
 .
Edit the file "equivs.conf" in the "debian" subdirectory of the sources
installed in /usr/src/ for this package to automagically add package names
to the "Provides:" field of the control file. This has to be a single line
without carriage return or dpkg will complain!
