Package: debian-cd
Version: 3.1.8
Severity: wishlist
Hello,
Currently, the netinst images do not contain brltty and espeakup. This
means that blind users who install Debian without a network mirror end
up with an unusable installed system, lacking brltty and espeakup to
show braille or talk to them. brltty was explicitly removed in version
3.1.0 because it pulls libicu, resulting to 5MiB increase. The rationale
was that it was not deemed the size for the little userbase. Some blind
users have complained about espeakup, which is about the same story
(pulling espeak etc.), so I'm recording the request here, in case that
could be reconsidered.
Samuel

This morning's bullseye build for amd64:
-rw-r--r-- 1 debian-cd debian-cd 377487360 May 16 08:56 debian-testing-amd64-netinst.iso
and the build I've just triggered by hand:
-rw-r--r-- 1 debian-cd debian-cd 395313152 May 16 14:45 debian-testing-amd64-netinst.iso
the difference is just under 18MB for the netinst, I think that's
OK. All the other larger images won't see any change here.
Marking this bug as closed now, as the change is in git and we're
using it for builds now.

Getting a SCSI chain working is perfectly simple if you remember that there
must be exactly three terminations: one on one end of the cable, one on the
far end, and the goat, terminated over the SCSI chain with a silver-handled
knife whilst burning *black* candles. --- Anthony DeBoer
