Re: Request to backport mercurial from Bookworm

Hello Dirk,

Hi,

I just found out there's a bug in Mercurials ACL extension in Mercurial
5.6.1 shipped with Bullseye, which prevents group entries in
"[acl.allow]" from working properly, while the one from 6.3.1 works as
expected. So it would be really great to have that version backported to
Bullseye.

this reads likes backport isn't the correct place to fix the potential underlying issue in 5.6.1 that way. backports is intended for providing new functionality which can't be added backwards to an existing version in a stable release.

At least you should open a bug report against the version in stable describing the misbehavior and if possible which upstream changes have fixed this problem. By this a backported fix could maybe added to the version in stable.

Of course you are free to request a newer mercurial version, as this would solve the problem for you too in just another way. :-)
